1. Common Anchor Marker
Inscription. This anchor is typical of early marine ship navigation, and weighs approximately one ton. A stock of oak would have been placed near the ring in the opposite direction of the flukes (also called hooks) to more easily secure them to the ocean floor. Typically, a ship would pay out anchor line (rode) equal to seven times the waters depth.
