The Territory and its population were given in charge to Juan de la Torre.

The First Spanish priests to reach this place were the Franciscans, who worked for the Evangelization of the town even before the entrustment was officially established. These religious initiated efforts to bulld the church of San Francisco de Asis, dating from the XVIIlth century and is best known as Mazahua Cathedral, for having a strong cultural influence in its structure and its decoration, especially the front doors.
