Numbers in Decline
Red panda populations have dropped by as much as 40% in the last 50 years, with fewer than 10,000 of this vulnerable species thought to remain in the wild.

Habitat Loss
The red panda habitat has been fragmented by logging, agriculture, livestock and development, cutting off red pandas from their natural range and from each other. This results in loss of the bamboo understory that provides much of their food, as well as trees for nesting.

Traditional Use
Red pandas have been hunted for their valuable fur to make traditional hats and clothing. In Yunnan Province, newlyweds desire fur hats complete with the red panda's striking, ringed tail, which is traditionally regarded as a talisman for a happy marriage.

How You Can Help
Support conservation for pandas in multiple ways:

• Raise awareness while reducing consumption: the more we use, the more resources we consume, like those we harvest from the habitats of the red panda.

• Donate to organizations like the Red Panda Network, the World Wildlife Fund or an AZA zoo that works with red pandas.

• Volunteer with one of those organizations to create fundraising opportunities or support them in other ways.

• Support fair wage economies by purchasing
