Newport Indian Mound
At the present time, the effigy mound is a profile view of the remaining panther and only a portion of the body remains intact. The head and a portion of the front legs have been essentially destroyed. The legs are still well defined and extend towards the Wisconsin River. The tail extends northwest for approximately 75 feet, and decreases steadily in elevation away from the body. The body of the panther is approximately three feet high and was originally 200 feet long. No artifacts or related archaeological materials were discovered in this mound.
