Inscription. James McMurdie, hatmaker, owned this house in 1791. Other owners include Charles Gillespie, copper and tinsmith, 1835; Gillespie's daughter Betsy Lowe, 1841; Joseph A. Kreps, carriage maker, 1862; his son Jacob R., Carpenter, 1864; Hannah and Felix Diffenderfer 1915-1940. Harold and Catherine McCoy restored this house in 1997 (northside) and in 2007 (southside).
