The 265 acre Wildlife Conservation Park/Bronx Zoo is the result of a partnership with New York City dating from 1895. The Zoo is operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society, a non-profit membership corporation, under City and State agreements. The City and Society collaborate to build exhibits and maintain the Zoo. The City provides crucial support but the Society must also seek contributions and charge fees.

The Society also operates the Aquarium in Brooklyn, the Central Park, Queens and Prospect Park Wildlife Centers and an international program of wildlife conservation.
