Jack Crippen was founder of the Reston Zoo on this site which was farmed by his family for over 150 years.

A visionary and irrepressible entrepreneur, Jack built the nearby Lake Fairfax in 1959 and helped develop the surrounding residential communities of Greater Reston and Great Falls.

Jacked loved horses and racing. He was a member of the Fairfax Hunt and a founding member of the Great Meadow Foundation.

Jack was a friend to animals and children. He built the Pet Farm Park in 1975 to bring them together. He brought joy, love of nature, and wisdom to generations of school children from Fairfax County and beyond.
