1. Marktplatz Marker
Inscription.  In 1846 the town's founder, John O. Meusebach dedicated this two-block area in the center of town to be enjoyed as a peaceful park for the use of Fredericksburg's citizens and their visitors. One can believe that Meusebach hoped this area surrounding the Vereins Kirche, later known as Marktplatz, would be kept as a place which invites communication and private reflections and that commercial use would not intrude upon its quiet beauty.

In 1982 a group of citizens formed the Marktplatz Foundation to raise an awareness of Meusebach's original intent for the center of the town. This group's efforts were successful when in 1987, the city of Fredericksburg purchased this northern half of the square and rededicated the Marktplatz to its original purpose.

In 1989, the Market Square Redevelopment Commission was created to raise funds for the redevelopment of this square.
