1. The Sisters of St. Joseph Marker
Inscription. They arrived in Wheeling, April 13, 1853 to teach, nurse in hospitals, take care of orphans, and help the poor. They left Carondelet (St. Louis) Missouri by boat, traveling down the Mississippi River to Cairo, Illinois and then up the Ohio River to Wheeling.
