Inscription.
As the result of a 1992 diesel fuel spill, a restoration plan is being implemented to improve and protect Fish Creek's water quality, habitat, and wildlife diversity. With 30 mussel species (including three Federal and five Indiana endangered species) and 49 fish species, Fish Creek is the most biologically unique stream in the entire Maumee River watershed.

Oil Spill Settlement
On September 15, 1993, a pipeline nurtures and discharged an estimated 30,000 gallons of #2 diesel fuel in a field in DeKalb County, Indiana. Through a small drainage ditch, the diesel fuel flowed downstream into Fish Creek. Seven miles of Fish Creek were directly contaminated. In 1996, the natural resource trustees Settled claims for natural resources injuries caused by the 1993 diesel fuel spill A $2,507,500 court registry account was established to be used exclusively on restoration, rehabilitation, replacement, or acquisition of equivalent resources injured by the diesel fuel spill.

Ecological Significance
For the federally endangered White Cat's Paw pearly mussel (Epioblasma obliquata perobliqua), Fish Creek is the mos important stream on earth. Of the 14 streams and one lake it has beer reported from, Fish Creek is the last known habitat with living specimens.
