1. Blueway Trail Marker
Inscription.  Massena, located along three rivers including the Raquette River was settled in the late 18th century. The economy of early Massena was partly based on health spas. The modern town is a center for the generation of hydro-electric power, aluminum at production Alcoa, and the commerce of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The Raquette, Grasse, and St. Lawrence Rivers also make Massena and surrounding area a popular destination for fishing, boating, camping and other outdoor activities. The multiple waterways in the Massena area attract fishing enthusiasts from near and far. Walleye are just one of the many popular catches in the area. Bass, bullhead, and perch are also common in the area.
