Inscription. This little house would give the chickens a place to roost for the night and to lay their eggs during the day they were usually given free-range to roam around the farm yard to keep it free of insects. The young girls of the family would usually be the ones who would feed the chickens and collect eggs from the nests for the family breakfast and for making baked goods. Extra eggs could be used for bartering or selling, producing what the women of the household called "pin money."
