1. Zwaanendael Museum Marker
Inscription. The Zwaanendael Museum was built in 1931 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the first European settlement in Delaware. The building is a careful adaptation of the town hall in Hoorn, Holland which was constructed in 1613. Exhibits in the museum illustrate the rich history of Sussex County and its maritime connections: the 1631 Dutch Settlement, the 1798 shipwrecked Brig DeBraak, the War of 1812 Lewes bombardment, the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse, and other changing exhibits.
