Regarding Ellen Stokes More Wemyss. William H. Wemyss (a cofounder of Jarman Shoe Co.) bought Fairvue in 1934. Five years later, he and Ellen married and she began restoring the house and grounds. Developers acquired the property in 1999-2000 and began building a residential golf course community, resulting in the landmark designation's removal in 2005 because the property bore little resemblance its historic use as an antebellum southern plantation.
