Inscription.
This path was once a park road that carried horse and carriage traffic through the park from the Miners’ Gate at East 79th Street, past Cedar Hill and across The Glade by means of a sandstone and brick arch. Glade Arch, constructed in 1860, was designed by Calvert Vaux, who was a founding designer of Central Park. The Hillside planting of specimen trees and shrub masses is characteristic of landscape design by Samuel Parsons, Jr., who as City Landscape Architect oversaw all work in Central Park from 1881-1911.

The reconstruction and ongoing maintenance of the Cedar Hill / Glade Arch landscape were made possible by a gift from the LuEsther T. Mertz Charitable Trust in 1995.
