Markhors can climb as high as 15'-20' in trees to eat the leaves.
Hunted for meat. Horns are also valued as trophies and as ingredients in the Asian medicine trade.
Loss of habitat due to expanded human settlement
Competes with domestic livestock on grazing lands.
Some markhor populations have disappeared altogether. Local hunters now have access to an abundance of weapons because of the wars in Afghanistan.
