1. Bronze Age Marker
Inscription.
This period is marked by an increased use of bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, and greater urbanization, as larger city-states grew, surrounded by fortified walls. The economy was mainly agricultural, with the appearance of olives used for oil and grapes for wine. Canaanite culture developed during this period, bringing us an alphabetic script. The Canaanite people were greatly influenced by the Egyptians. Cylinder seals and stamps (scarabs) of the Egyptian type are common artifacts from this period.

Some cay artifacts show the evidence of having been made on a potter's wheel. The people of Israel are mentioned for the first time on Egyptian "Execration Texts" (clay tablets with lists of the city-states that were cursed because of their disloyalty to Egypt). The Jewish Patriarchs, Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, are believed to have lived at this time.
