The Byzantine forces lost control of the area to the conquering Arabs from the Deserts of Arabia under Caliph Umar.

[Captions:]
Ceramic Oil Lamp - The shape is similar to oil lamps during the Byzantine period; however, the spouts became less pronounced,with finer decoration.

Coins - These were minted in Damassus.

Ceramic panel with Arab script, from the interior of the Great Mosque of Acre, built by Jazzar Pasha. Stone relief of lions that flank each side of St. Stephen's Gate.
