An internationally renowned writer, artist, and social reformer, Seton was passionately interested in nature and the relationship of Native peoples to their environment. His realistic animal stories were best-sellers that have had a lasting impact on Canadian literature. Largely self taught, Seton made pioneering contributions as a naturalist, ornithologist, conservationist, ethnologist, and wildlife artist. His enthusiasms were embodied in the Woodcraft Indians, a youth organization he founded that profoundly influenced the world-wide Boy Scout movement.

1. The Seton Centre.
Ernest Thompson Seton was a world-renowned artist and naturalist who spent much of his time between 1882-1892 in the Carberry and North Cypress area. 2. Ernest Thompson Seton.
In 1882, he joined his brother on a homestead outside Carberry, Manitoba, where he began to write. In 1891, he published The Birds of Manitoba and was appointed Provincial Naturalist by the government of Manitoba. He continued to publish books about Manitoba for decades to come, including The Life Histories of Northern Animals: An Account of the Mammals of Manitoba and lived in Manitoba until 1930, when he moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico.(Submitted on July 10, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
3. Ernest Thompson Seton.
Seton created a youth group called the Woodcraft Indians in 1902; their program was based on American Indian culture and traditions. Seton wrote some articles for Ladies’ Home Journal that same year; these articles became the Woodcraft Handbook, and the Birch Bark Roll of the Woodcraft Indians. In 1910, Seton helped to found the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). He was a life-long learner, seeing education as a process rather than as a destination, starting in earliest childhood and continuing until the end. He became a prime example of being the change you want to see in the world.
