Inscription.

The second Tay Canal, like its predecessor, was never the large-scale success anticipated by its supporters. While freight and passenger steamers were a common sight, recreation became the focus for the canal by the 1920s. Today there is a new boom in traffic as pleasure boaters follow the historic route of the second Tay Canal.

• Plan of the Tay Navigation

• The locks on the second Tay Canal were built to Rideau Canal standards, thus could accommodate the large steamers such as the "Olive” and "John Haggart” which sailed to Ottawa and Kingston. The old Drummond Street Bridge visible behind these steamers could be swung to allow boats to pass.

• Pleasure boats such as this were frequent travellers on the Tay Canal. The town of Perth can be seen in the distance.
