1. Storehouse Marker
Inscription. The storehouse was used for storing army rations and supplies. Food staples consisted of salt pork, dried beef, corn, beans, rice and coffee, plus such condiments as salt, brown sugar, vinegar and molasses. Equipment and supplies for an army, such as the one that built Fort Christmas, were substantial and consisted of building tools and materials, plus those items necessary to keep the army in good repair. Articles required for an advanced depot by order of General Thomas S. Jesup are listed inside the storehouse.
