1. DeLois Wilkinson Marker
Inscription. Mrs. Wilkinson was hired by Meharry Medical College in the 1950's and eventually became chief physical therapist at Meharry. As a member of historic First Baptist Church Capital Hill, she attended the Saturday morning meetings of the Nashville Christian Leadership Conference and became increasingly active in the fight for civil rights. She was instrumental in organizing Nashville's lunch counter sit-ins and later served on the Civil Rights Commission, the Metro Nashville Board of Education and the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. Mrs. Wilkinson was also a lifetime member of the NAACP.
