At about 3 p.m. April 6, 1862 this battery went into action here, and was engaged until about 5.30 p.m.

3. 12-pdr Field Howitzer
This piece is a rare example of a 12-pdr Field Howitzer produced by S. Wolff & Co., of New Orleans, Louisiana. Markings on the trunnions are "S. Wolff & Co. // 1862 // 2". The recessed area near the breech and raised base ring are unique to the Wolff howitzer for this caliber.

4. 12-pdr Field Howitzer
On the other side, this 12-pdr Field Howitzer was produced by John Clark & Co., also of New Orleans. The piece was cast in 1861. Note the muzzle swell, similar to a 6-pdr Field Gun, which is unique to the howitzers produced by Clark.
