Inscription. Over a century ago, conservationist Aldo Leopold and forester Robert Marshall prompted the Forest Service to consider wilderness preservation as a worthy goal. They argued that wilderness itself was as important a resource as timber, water, or minerals. Thanks to these champions and others, areas like the pristine high country of San Jacinto became permanently protected.

Mount San Jacinto State Park is one of the oldest and largest wilderness areas among California's state parks. Ninety percent of the land is permanently set aside as wilderness. This designation means pristine conditions are protected. For the visitor, it means experiences marked by rugged beauty and solitude are also protected. In this quiet sanctuary, you can unplug and unwind, and witness nature on its own terms.
