1. Cardinal Direction Marker: East Marker
This stone is one of four Cardinal Direction Markers that honor the four directions—north, east, south and west. Representatives of Native communities in Canada, Maryland, Chile, and Hawai'i selected a meaningful stone from their region.
This eastern marker from nearby Sugarloaf Mountain is a 544-million-year-old quartzite, a very hard stone once used to make arrowheads.
