Inscription.
This stone is one of four Cardinal Direction Markers that honor the four directions—north, east, south, and west. Representatives of Native communities in Canada, Maryland, Chile, and Hawai'i selected a meaningful stone from their region.

This lava stone from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park marks west and is the youngest at 300 years old. Native Hawaiians consider pōhaku (stones) to be living relatives.

Please respect the animals, rocks, and plants around you.
