What Is a Meadow?
A meadow is more than just an open field. Meadows are diverse, dynamic habitats dominated by herbaceous plants, including native grasses and wildflowers.

Why Are Meadows Important?
Meadows provide cover, food, and nesting sites for birds, insects, and other wildlife. Without this important habitat, these species would disappear. Meadows also absorb stormwater runoff, helping prevent flooding and soil erosion.

Restoring Meadows
Meadows used to be widespread in the United States. But they have declined over the years due to development and agriculture. Today, conservationists are working to restore these important habitats.
