Inscription.
Water flowed throughout Druid Hill Park for many years. Within a few years of the park's opening, over a dozen springs were adorned with statues and architectural features, many of which were designed by park architect, George Frederick. Benches and metal drinking cups were provided at most of the springs.

The Three Sisters Ponds were originally five pools formed by natural springs which served as a Fish Hatchery. One of these ponds was incorporated into the sea lion exhibit of the zoo using water piped in from the High Service Reservoir which was taken out of service in 19288.

To the dismay of many park visitors, water quality issues forced the closing of these fountains when areas north of the park were developed for residential use in the 1960s. Overgrown and hidden for forty years, the Three Sisters area of the park is slated for restoration.

Crise's Fountain, funded by John L. Crise, in 1870, is now inside the zoo near the former duck pond.
