Inscription. On hommage à l'un des principaux artisans de la Grande Palx de Montréal de 1701

“Aujourd’hui [..] le Soleil a dissipé tous ses nuages pour faire paraitre ce bel Arbre de paix qui était déjà planté sur la montagne la plus élevée de la terre” - paroles attribuées à Kondiaronk

Lors de la journée nationale des peuples autochtones, le 21 Juin 1997, le maire de Montréal, M. Pierre Bourque, nommait officiellement du nom de Kondiaronk le Belvedere du Mont Royal. Participatent également a la cérémonie: MM. Serge Menard, ministre d'état a la Métropole, Rene Simon, chef de la communauté autochtone de betsiamites, et Ghislain Picard, chef regional Québec et Labrador de L'Assemblée des premières nations.

Gaspar Soiaga, Souojas, Sastaretsi, dit le rat

L'un des chefs les plus importants de la nation des Hurons-Wendats de Michillimakinac, reconnu tant pour ses talents d'orateur que ceux d'habile stratege militaire et politique. Il est décédé a Montreal le 2 août 1701, pendant les négociations du traité de paix.

A tribute to one of the main architects of the Grande Palx of Montreal in 1701

"Today [..] The sun has dissipated all its clouds to make appear this beautiful tree of peace which was already planted on the highest mountain of the earth" - words attributed to Kondiaronk

On national aboriginal peoples day, June 21, 1997, the mayor of Montreal, Mr. Pierre Bourque, officially named Kondiaronk the Mount Royal Belvedere. Also participating in the ceremony: Mm. Serge Menard, minister of state for metropolis, Rene Simon, head of the aboriginal community of Betsiamites, and Ghislain Picard, Quebec and Labrador regional head of the assembly of first nations.

He died in Montreal on August 2, 1701, during peace treaty negotiations.

The Great Peace of Montreal of 1701
This peace treaty was signed in Montreal on August 4, 1701. It put an end to the conflicts which for several decades between the French and the Five Nations of the Iroquois League and the latter to the nations of the Great Lakes region, nations allies of the French . The negotiations which lead to the signature of this treaty spread over a few years and Kondiaronky's participation is determining. These negotiations were completed during an important conference which brought together in Montreal, in the summer of 1701, the representatives of some forty nations.
