1. Harriet Cany Peale Marker
Inscription. Harriet Cany Peale (1800-1869) was born in Philadelphia. She studied with Rembrandt Peale in Philadelphia. Rembrandt Peale (1778-1860) has been acclaimed for his portraits of Washington and Jefferson. In 1840 she exhibited her work for the first time at the Artists Fund Society in Philadelphia. Also on November 6, 1840 she married her widowed teacher, Peale. In 1848 she exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy for Fine Arts for the first of five different exhibits there. She painted with Rembrandt Peale, as well as working on replicas of her husband's work, such as his Washington Portrait. Her notable works include "Still Life with Lowestoft Bowl", "Woman at the Window", "View of the Catskill Mountains" and her portrait of her husband Rembrandt. She is buried here in the Cany Family vault.
