1. Col. Charles Von Kusserow, (Oct. 3, 1832 - Feb. 3, 1879) Marker
Inscription. Son of the German General Von Kusserow, a veteran of the Prussian Army, entered the war in 1862 into the 3rd NY Artillery as a 2nd Lt. He served as a 1st Lt. and Captain in the 32nd NY Light Artillery. His unit saw action at various battles including Fredericksburg, Antietam, Shenandoah Valley, Yorktown, and several other battles. He was later given the rank of Lt. Col. of the 2nd Veteran Volunteers and was brevetted Colonel for meritorious service during the war on March 13, 1865. He suffered sunstroke on 2 occasions during the war and died at the age of 46. The German Consul attended his funeral.
