Privateers
A young man who enlisted in the Continental Navy had a very good chance of dying from disease or battle with little financial gain for his service.
Not so if he became a privateer. Many attained wealth inducement for 1000s of men young and old to sign up for a privateering cruise on the Atlantic coast capturing enemy cargo ships.
Several privateers are buried in Old Pine's Graveyard.
