1. Dr. Benjamin Rush House Site Marker
Inscription.
Dr. Benjamin Rush lived in a three-story house on this site from 1790-1793. A true son of the Enlightenment, he was a physician, chemist, educator, author, abolitionist, and politician. His treatise on mental illness was the first in America.

Rush served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and signed the Declaration of Independence. Later he supported ratification of the U.S. Constitution.
