Inscription. Betty Lou Thompson was born in Mississippi and graduated from Sumner High School. She attended Harris Stowe State College and is the first African American elected to Women in Government, an outspoken opponent of apartheid and serve as Democratic Majority Whip while representing District 72 in the Missouri House of Representatives.
