1 • Mount Vernon Red Maple
Planted in honor of the Founders of the City of Sanford, Florida on February 10, 1992.

This red maple has been grown from seeds collected at Mount Vernon, President George Washington's beloved home on the Potomac River in Virginia.

2 • Patrick Henry Osage Orange
Planted on March 30, 1995 by Joseph Masek and Timothy Healy Families in loving memory of Shirley A. Masek and Judith A. Hall.

The National Champion Patrick Henry Osage Orange is more than 400 years old. It is the focal point of the grounds of Red Hill, Henry's Virginia home and resting place.

3 • Bartram's Garden River Birch
Planted by The Jacaranda Circle of the Sanford Garden Club on January 10, 1995.

John Bartram founded the United States' first botanical garden in Philadelphia in 1798. The Bartram's Garden River Birch is a descendant of trees in this garden.

4 • Edgar Allen Poe Hackberry
Planted by P.A.S. in honor of the Dark Imagination on October 7, 1993.

The Edgar Allen Poe Hackberry grows in the Enchanted Garden at the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia. The garden, with landscapes inspired by Poe's poetry, is only a few blocks from his home.

Hippocrates spent hours teaching medicine under the branches of the Hippocratic Oath Sycamore which grows on the Greek island of Cos.

11 • Maquon Bur Oak
Planted on September 14, 1996 by the Morales Family in memory of Teodoro D. Morales, beloved father.

The Maquon bur oak shaded the remaining Algonquin Indian village after the Black Hawk War around 1830. The town of Maquon is located near Spoon River in west-central Illinois.

12 • Zachary Taylor Sweetgum
Planted on September 14, 1996 by the Morales Family in memory of Paula G. Morales, beloved mother.

The branches of the Zachary Taylor Sweetgum spread over the Louisville, Kentucky burial site of the nation's 12th president.

Planted on November 4, 1995 in memory of Helen Taylor Morris by family and friends.

The Ulysses S. Grant Sycamore grows in the yard of the City Point, Virginia headquarters used by Grant during the Civil War siege of Petersburg. Grant was the 18th president.
