Inscription.
These small turtles live in freshwater shallows throughout the eastern U.S. and Canada. They favor ponds, streams and wetlands where they have access to shorelines for nesting. Once common, spotted turtle populations have been dramatically reduced by development and human activities.

Animal Facts
Spotted turtles are popular pets but collection threatens their survival in the wild.

These turtles sometimes hibernate in groups, clustered together in muddy stream bottoms.

Female spotted turtles can live to be 110 years old.

Conservation Status
Endangered

High risk of extinction in the wild.
