People need vultures. These highly efficient scavengers likely limit the spread of diseases by feeding on carcasses that would otherwise rot.
Andean condors have the largest wingspan of any landbird on Earth. Their huge wings help them soar for hundreds of miles to find food.
Brandywine Zoo is a leader in vulture conservation. We have supported condor reintroductions in South America and partner with the African Vultures SAFE program to stop the African Vulture Crisis.

🏠 Lives on cliffs of the Andes mountains in western and northwestern South America.
⏰ Can live for over 50 years in the wild, over 75 under human care.
Conservation Status: Vulnerable
Andean condors are threatened by poaching, capture for traditional rituals, and loss of food sources.
