1. 2808 East Broad Street Marker
Inscription. Built in 1897, this handsome Queen Anne brick row house features a rounded projecting bay window and turret, an asymmetrical façade, and a false slate mansard roof, architectural elements that are hallmarks of this period. The home with first occupied by Reverend H.R. Quarels, though purchased the following year by William H. Earle, a pilot who lived here with his family until 1906. Between 1910 and 1915, Charles M. Rosson, an operator at Western Union Telephone Company, resided here. Hugh Hancock, a superintendent at Old Dominion Steamship Company, and his family occupied the house between 1917 and 1920. This house is listed as a contributing structure to the Saint John's Church Historic District on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places.
