For a long time two grain mills stood here along the canal. This changed considerably when Henri Camp, architect to the king, designed the academic hospital here in 1870. In 1937 the hospital relocated and the building has housed the Museum Volkenkunde ever since. The museum presents objects from different cultural regions that all have a story to tell about human themes.
