1. The Hospital / L'hôpital Marker

[English] The Canadian Army Medical Corps, Military District 10, established at Camp Hughes in 1915, a Field Ambulance Depot to raise volunteers for overseas service. As well, a hospital at the Camp was set up consisting of 250 beds. There were no ward buildings, but each ward tent had a wooden floor. The Hospital was staffed by No.10 Field Ambulance Depot, CAMC, with a complement of over 300 personnel and eight nursing sisters. Admissions numbered 1,894 patients with five deaths. , In 1916, No. 10 Canadian Army Medical Corps Training Depot staffed the Camp Hospital. It had an established strength of 275 Officers and Other Ranks. Also included in this number were 30 trained Nursing Sisters. Admissions numbered 3815, with just eleven deaths. , The health of the Camp was generally excellent. Hospital capacity eventually increased to 350 beds. There was a sterilization ward, a bacteria laboratory and a pathological lab. A Fumigation Unit was set-up for cleaning the bedding and clothing. Hot baths for medical purposes were taken at the Camp swimming pool. une infirmerie de stérilisation, un laboratoire de bactéries et un laboratoire de pathologie. Un service de fumigation a été mis en place pour le nettoyage de la literie et des vêtements. On pouvait prendre des bains chauds à des fins médicales dans la piscine du camp. Suite à la découverte de la présence de tuberculose dans le camp, on a mis sur pied une unité d'isolement.
Les édifices semi-permanents comprenaient les suivants : l'édifice des fournitures médicales, 1915 (avec salle d'opération); la cuisine de l'hôpital, 1915 et le bâtiment d'administration (directeur adjoint des services médicaux), 1916.
