1. Laghetto di San Marco / Pond of San Marco Marker
Il Laghetto di San Marco costituito da uno slargo voluto alla fine del '400 era il secondo punto di approdo del Naviglio in Milano (il primo era la Darsena) che evitava alle imbarcazioni provenienti da nord (Martesana e Paderno) di fare il giro della cerchia fino alla Darsena di porta Ticinese. Due ponti collegavano le sue sponde: il ponte Medici (noto come ponte dei suicidi) e il ponte posto di fronte alla Chiesa di San Marco. Sul lato ovest si concentravano numerosi impianti artigianali, tra i quali il piω famoso era la bottega dello scalpellino Pirovano. Al laghetto di san Marco arrivavano in particolare la calce utilizzata nell'attivitΰ edilizia e le pietre destinate agli scultori operanti in casa Medici. Piω tardi sarΰ il punto di arrivo della carta proveniente dalla cartiera Burgo di Corsico che serviva il Corriere della Sera (1). La Chiesa di San Marco (2) prospettava direttamente sul Laghetto e aveva dinnanzi l'omonima Conca che chiudeva il Bacino e controllava l'immissione delle acque del Laghetto nel Naviglio interno.

The Laghetto di S. Marco (Pond of St. Marco), consisting of a widening commissioned at the end of the fifth century, was the second landing point in Milan's waterway system (the first was the Darsena). It allowed the boats from the north (Martesana and Paderno) to avoid going around the circle down to the Porta Ticinese dock. Two bridges linked its banks: the Medici Bridge (known as suicide bridge) and the bridge just opposite the Church of San Marco. On the west side were concentrated several workshops, among which the most famous one was Pirovano, the stonemason's workshop. Among the materials that arrived at the St. Marco Pond were mostly lime, used in construction, and the stones for the sculptors working in the House of the Medici. Later on, the site would become the point of arrival of paper from the Burgo Corsico paper mill, which supplied the Corriere della Sera (1). The Church of St. Marco (2) gave onto the pond and faced the homonymous lock, whose function was to close the basin and to check the flow of water from the pond into the Naviglio Interno (Inner Canal).
