Fells Point in Baltimore, Maryland — The American Northeast (Mid-Atlantic)
Rouse-Flick Learning Tower
In 1998, Living Classrooms Foundation constructed the Rouse-Flick Learning Tower next to the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Education Center. The 75-foot Learning Tower is a living classroom for hands-on education and a memorial and tribute to the visionary thinking of James Rouse and the great potential of youth exemplified by Elizabeth Flick. The Tower houses several interactive learning stations that engage students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) applications, including lessons in renewable energy illustrated through the Tower's solar and wind generators.
The Rouse-Flick Learning Tower is part of how Living Classrooms Foundation:
increases access to engaging STEM-focused activities that support school earning,
helps student view STEM subjects as relevant and useful to real-world tasks, issues, and careers, and
encourages students to become environmental stewards.

I was one of the lead carpenters that built this entire tower. We fabricated all beams to be precisely attached with galvanized connectors and the grand stairs made from scratch. Two cranes were needed to lift parts into place. I really enjoyed the entire project.
