Godfrey in Madison County, Illinois — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Godfrey
Blooming with possibilities
| | Meeting of the Great Rivers | |
The change of the seasons bloom and fade in everlasting beauty at the Monticello Sculpture Gardens on the campus of Lewis & Clark Community College. Monumental bronze sculptures grace the campus, surrounding by fountains, a lily pond and the Missouri Botanical Garden's Signature Gardens. Summer crops fade into fall fun at the Great Godfrey Maze located in Glazebrook Park. Each September and October, the park is transformed into an a-maze-ing adventure for all ages as visitors wind their way through a one mile maze cut into a 7-acre cornfield.
Though you may lose your way in the corn, the historic landmarks of Godfrey will always get you back on track. Built in 1854, the Benjamin Godfrey Chapel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the edge of town, the Lindbergh Relay Station was used as a layover for Charles Lindbergh along his St. Louis to Chicago mail delivery route in the 1920s.
