Sam Dale (1772-1841) - Indian trader / wagoner
Scout and trader, he explored Alabama wilderness, was called Big Sam "Tholocco" by the Indians later led settlers from Georgia to lands in Tombigbee Alabama River basins.

Alabama militia captain who with two men defeated eleven Indians in hand-to-hand combat, fighting in canoes on the Alabama River, November 13, 1813.

Hon. Samuel Dale - Dispatch rider / legislator
Rider who delivered dispatches to General Andrew Jackson during Battle of New Orleans, January 8, 1814. Member of Alabama Legislature who was honored by having Dale County named for him December 22, 1824.
