Over the course of her four commissions, New Jersey was the flagship for some of the most famous Admirals in U.S. Navy history. From World War II to Vietnam, this area was part of the Flag Cabin where these naval legends worked and lived while shaping world history. The following list denotes some of the Admirals who made New Jersey their flagship, as well as a few of the more notable Admirals who visited the Battleship.

February 4, 1944 - April 6, 1944: Admiral Raymond A. Spruance. Flagship for Fifth Fleet.
May 12, 1944 - May 30, 1944: Vice Admiral Willis A. Lee, Jr. Temporarily embarked.
August 24, 1944 - January 27, 1945: Admiral William F. Halsey, Jr. Flagship for Third Fleet.
December 1944: Vice Admiral John S. McCain, Sr. Visited to confer with Admiral Halsey.
December 24, 1944: Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Visited to celebrate Christmas with crew (First time a five-star flag flew in a Pacific Fleet warship).
January 29, 1945 - April 15, 1945: Rear Admiral Oscar C. Badger II. Flagship for Battleship Division Seven.
August 14, 1945: Admiral Raymond A. Spruance. Flagship for Fifth Fleet.
June 23, 1947 - late August 1947: Admiral Richard L. Conolly. Flagship for Training Squadron.

August 6, 1953 - August 8, 1953: Admiral F.B. Stumpf. Temporarily embarked.
August 27, 1956 - late 1956: Vice Admiral Charles Wellborn, Jr. Flagship for Second Fleet.
June 2, 1969 - August 5, 1969: Rear Admiral Lloyd R. Vasey. Flagship for Training Squadron.
