Inscription.
The old fort was demolished and new log buildings with shingled roofs were constructed. Without the fort the name changed to Calgary Barracks. As headquarters for 'E' Division, Calgary was responsible for all the land north to Red Deer, south to High River and from the British Columbia to the Saskatchewan borders. To cover this large territory the Mounties still required the services of Aboriginal and Mιtis Guides such as John Brazeau who served in Calgary for 20 years.

One of the two Men's Barracks burned down in 1887. A new two storey frame building was constructed to replace it in 1888. Some of the rooms were used as Barracks but the main floor housed the Orderly Room, as well as, a library filled with books and magazines, a canteen where 4% beer, tobacco and personal items were sold, and a games room complete with a billiard table.
