1. The Original Site of The Wayside Hospital Marker
On this corner the women of the Pee Dee Section established in 1861 a home for the relief of passing Confederate soldiers.
In 1862 this home was assigned to the Confederate government for a Wayside Hospital with Dr. Theodore Dargan as Surgeon in Charge and Dr. Peter B. Bacot as Assistant Surgeon.
To this hospital the women gave loyal and devoted service until the end of the war.
