1. Eads House Marker
Inscription. Renowned engineer James B. Eads, who was born in Lawrenceburg in 1820, lived in this home until his family moved to St. Louis in 1833. Eads was a self-taught engineer and is known for designing the Bridge across the Mississippi River in 1869. He also produced iron clads for the Union during the Civil War.

Self-educated, he made his initial fortune by designing a diving bell. He went on to hold more than 50 patents.
