Inscription. On August 18, 1928, former Alexandria police sergeant Elton B. Hummer gave his life in the line of duty. In his honor and as a gift to the city of Alexandria, Mrs. Jelks H. Cabaniss, Jr. commissioned Randal's Masonry Restoration to reconstruct this alley, completed in February 2011.
