At this site early in the morning of September 14, 1901 Theodore Roosevelt received the message that President McKinley had died in Buffalo and that he had become President of the United States.

Regarding North Creek Railway Station. Listed on the State and National Registrar, the North Creek Railroad Station Complex is located in the Hamlet of North Creek in the Town of Johnsburg, Warren County, New York. It is in the southeast portion of the Adirondack Forest Preserve with more or less rural lands to the south and east. The railroad line hugs the western shore of the Hudson River, traversing North Creek on its way to Tahawus. The station complex is at the northern end of the hamlet of North Creek on the West Bank of the Hudson.
Architecturally a fine example of the typical rural station of the period, the North Creek station has remained almost completely unaltered since the day it was built in 1874. The whole complex, consisting

5. Mike Cronin's Carriage in the Collection of the Adirondack Museum
This carriage, built by the H. A. Moyer Co. of Syracuse, NY, was donated to the Adirondack Museum in 1968 by Eloise Conin Murphy. Mike Cronin was a backwoods Irishman and proprietor of the Aiden Lair Lodge in Minerva. Cronin drove Teddy Roosevelt the final distance to North Creek in this carriage early in the morning of September 14th, 1901.

6. North Creek Railway Station - September 14, 1901
This diorama of the North Creek station is on display at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. Mike Cronin's two horse carriage, that delivered Roosevelt to the station is in the foreground. Also next to the platform is the engine waiting to take Roosevelt on the first leg of his journey to Buffalo to be sworn in as the next President. The diorama caption says,
'North Creek Station
Theodore Roosevelt's carriage arrives and he leaps to the platform.
His secretary William Loeb gives him the telegram:
"McKinley died at 2:15 a.m. this morning" The day is September 14, 1901.'

8. North Creek Railway Station & Marker
The Saratoga & North Creek Railroad runs the Gore Mountain Ski Train to the North Creek Station where a bus deliveres skiiers to the Gore Mountain base lodge. The North Creek Railway Station marker is on the railing to the left of the stairs.
